Protein is also the key nutrient that helps you get ageless, glowing skin and lean, toned muscles. As you all know, we've been on this vegan journey for the past 4yrs and it's been such an eye opening experience.

It’s important you choose the right products that suits your needs and that supports your health in every way.

This is a highly processed food additive usually made from genetically modified (GMO) corn. Protein companies use it to make their products mix easier. In some cases Maltodextrin may also cause weight gain, skin irritation, asthma, cramping, or difficulty breathing.

These common food additives are used to thicken protein powders and other foods. Soy lecithin is particularly troubling. To make it, soybean oil (GMO unless it says “organic” or “non-GMO verified”) is extracted from raw soybeans using a chemical solvent (usually hexane), then dried and bleached

Gluten can have far-reaching negative effects upon your health. If you're suffering from obesity to fatigue, depression to headaches, acne, arthritis to digestive problems, gluten sensitivity may very well be at the root of your symptoms. Gluten can also affect your hormonal health by stressing the adrenal, causing adrenal fatigue and a number of hormone-related health problems.

This is produced by bacterial fermentation of a sugar-containing medium — usually a potentially allergenic or GMO-containing substance such as corn, soy, dairy, or wheat. On top of that, xanthan gum has been shown to have a major laxative effect. Thickeners and gums, including xanthan gum, are manufactured from soy or corn and can cause bloating and gas.

According to a 2018 study, this ingredient is a proven carcinogen (Click here). A carcinogen is defined as a substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue.

An evaluation published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology determined that a higher concentration and longer exposure, silicon dioxide interferes with cell cycle and inhibits cell growth in the gastrointestinal tract.

Researchers concluded that even though silicon dioxide could be used as a safe food additive, more investigations, such as long-term in vivo exposure, are necessary in future studies.

Due to this uncertainty, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) doesn’t classify silicon dioxide as safe

These are also known as whey protein concentrate and caseinate. WPC’s and casein protein sources are high in lactose, which can often cause bloating, flatulence, and gastrointestinal distress in some people.

So, what are the allergens in milk? You've heard of "curds and whey?" Well, these are the two main proteins in milk. The solid bits are the curds (made of casein), and the liquid is the dissolved whey.

Unlike lactose intolerance, casein and whey can cause an actual immune response and be considered a true allergy by promoting an IgE response from the immune system. And this immune response can cause inflammation. In fact, we don’t know how many people have these milk allergies, but most estimates put it far below that of lactose intolerance.

However, even if an IgE immediate immune response is not observed, a lot of people still get reactions from the casein and whey and therefore find themselves intolerance to these proteins.

Like lactose, these allergenic milk proteins can be found in other products too. They're not just in dairy but are often the base of many protein powders as well (ie. "whey" protein powder).

Common artificial sweeteners used are sucralose, splenda (955), aspartamine, equal, NutraSweet (951), or saccharin (954). Several negative side effects can come from ingesting these unnatural ingredients, including headaches, migraines, gastric distress, depression, and weight gain.
